Production of the early V-twin three-wheelers ran through 1939, when the F-Series three-wheeler—first introduced in 1932—took over for the bike-engined model. Like the three-banger in the latest Super 3, the F-Series’ use of Ford’s sidevalve four-cylinder made for a more conventional driving experience over the raw, rorty Spitfire-esque sporting drive of the V-twin.

1952 marked the final year for the F-Series, and a successor wouldn’t arrive until some 60 years later in 2012. The modern trike was an instant success, both financially and spiritually; the then-new 3 Wheeler became the most talked about British car since the return of the new Mini Hatch in 2000. Suddenly, Morgan Motors found stable footing in the U.S, a market long considered a pipe dream for the boutique British automaker.

The 3 Wheeler was an instant media darling. It was hailed as a dirty, raw tonic to the sterile modern sports car, offering a drive experience that elevates sensation over all else. 83 hp and 103 lb-ft isn’t barn-burning, but that S&S-sourced heart has just 1,157 pounds to scuttle, returning a claimed 4.5-second 0-60 mph dash that in practice feels more like zero-to-a-thousand thanks to skinny tires, unassisted steering, Mazda Miata-sourced five-speed manual transmission, and near-zero weather protection.

It is, to put it simply, some of the most fun you can have on public roads—both for the driver and passersby. Neon green Lamborghinis and chrome-wrapped Bentleys wish they had half the public charisma of the 3 Wheeler, especially when presented in the subject car’s rich metallic red paint. When a Morgan trike roars by, people smile, laugh, and wave along with the driver—those who shy away from attention need not inquire.

The 2012 Morgan 3 Wheeler on offer is a particularly handsome example of the breed. The aforementioned red metallic paint is in excellent condition, complemented by a beautiful ivory interior complete with quilted leather upholstery. Exterior chrome work is bright and almost entirely free of blemishes, even on the exposed V-twin engine. With 6,477 miles on the odometer, the brightly chromed engine is impressively clean and contrasted by charmingly blued exhaust headers.

The chrome extends to the roll hoops behind the passengers, an equipped-to-order option when new. The cockpit is focused and refreshingly sparse, with no hardware or accessories outside of basic controls and analog gauges. The upholstery is in excellent condition, including the optional stitched red leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the switchgear carries only minor wear from use. Aside from permanent grin on the driver’s face, this Morgan comes with original owners manual, tool bag, red tonneau cover, and a clean CarFax.
