1951 Jaguar XK120

The XK 120 was originally conceived as a show car to highlight Jaguar's exciting new 3.4-liter dual overhead camshaft straight-six engine, dubbed the XK. The XK 120 was never intended for series production, but its reception at the Earls Court Motor Show in the fall of 1948 quickly convinced Jaguar otherwise. The sleek, feline envelope body designed by Jaguar boss William Lyons set new standards of streamlined design and stood out from a generation of attractive but rectangular British sports car designs. First introduced as a roadster with handmade aluminum bodies, Jaguar quickly tooled up for production in steel to be followed in the summer of 1951 by the fixed head coupe. The coupe was a popular and elegant car, but it is the XK 120 Roadster that has remained the iconic image of the classic 1950s Jaguar for most enthusiasts and collectors.

This 1951 Jaguar XK 120 Roadster is precisely what such enthusiasts and collectors are thinking of. Finished in British Racing Green with a tan leather interior, it has a black cloth convertible top, rear wheel spats, body color steel wheels with hubcaps and trim rings, and side curtains. This is a matching numbers car according to the included Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate, and was comprehensively and correctly restored in the late 1990s. The restoration began with a straight, complete and solid car and was a proper ground up, nut and bolt job. The work, including the complete disassembly of the car, is photo documented and was completed to show quality standards. The car has been pampered ever since and is currently still very much in showable condition, a testament to both the quality of the restoration and the careful ownership it has enjoyed over the last decade and a half. As a superb matching numbers XK 120 Roadster, it is among the most gorgeous and rewarding classic sports cars you can buy.
