1964 MG B

The MG B marked an important and significant step in the sports car's evolution when it pioneered a lightweight frameless unit body structure with exceptional rigidity, the antithesis of the cart-sprung, flexible frame MGs that had preceded it. In production for two decades, it was the last automobile produced at MG's famed Abingdon works, the proud final chapter in a long and proud history of open MG sports cars. Powered by a 1789cc engine that delivered 94hp at 5500 rpm, it had front disc brakes and the luxury of rollup windows and standard vent windows. Although the wheelbase was 3 inches shorter than the MG A it replaced, the redesigned body provided more interior room. This 1964 MG B has benefited from a thorough restoration to very attractive standards in metallic British Racing Green with tan leather upholstery with headrest seats, inviting interior trim in the same color, black carpets and a tan cloth top and tonneau cover. It has been built to be enjoyed, with a wood rim Moto-Lita steering wheel, satellite radio entertainment system, chrome luggage rack and burl walnut instrument panel and dashboard, riding on chrome centerlock wire wheels with black wall radial tires. The engine compartment is nicely detailed and orderly in standard production trim, colors and materials, not overdone. It runs and drives very well, with the sprightly pickup and quick, responsive handling which made the model a favorite of drivers and journalists in the Sixties and Seventies. It is a great looking car that begs to be taken out and driven enthusiastically.
