The Hyman Ltd. Stand in Essen

Techno Classica is by far the largest antique car exhibition in the world! The event is host to more than 1,250 exhibitors from over 30 different countries and covers over 120,000 square meters of exhibition space, with visitors from over 40 nations. Our display is located in Hall 6, Stand 203. This year, we have additional space available on our stand, so if you have a vehicle you wish to display for sale, please contact Mark Hyman at mark@hymanltd.com or Shawn Dougan at shawn@hymanltd.com or call us at +1(314) 524-6000.

After finishing out 2017 on a high note, Hyman Ltd. has enjoyed a very successful start to 2018. We have seen a dramatic uptick in sales to our European clients as economic conditions favor those in overseas markets. As always we continue to keep a close watch on the market to ensure we offer our clients the best classic automobiles available. We pride ourselves on the personal relationships we keep with our clients, and each year we travel the world to visit with old friends and make new connections along the way.

Our busy 2018 season kicked off with the traditional week of events in sunny Scottsdale, Arizona. Of course, Mark, Shawn and the crew were on the ground from day one, soaking in the warm weather and setting their sights on the finest cars on offer. We always enjoy the warmth and hospitality of Scottsdale and of course we had a successful week on the ground.

Back in St. Louis, the hard work continued as we acquired a large collection of highly desirable sports and GT cars from a longtime friend and client, as well as taking in several significant motorcars from a major East Coast collection, which includes the staggeringly beautiful 1938 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Disappearing Roof Drophead by Thrupp & Maberly as well as a Judkins-bodied Duesenberg Model J Berline and a wonderful Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith powered by the world’s only “spare” Phantom IV straight eight engine. All of which are currently available and can be seen on our website, www.hymanltd.com.

Immediately following the festivities in Scottsdale, Mark traveled to Palm Beach, Florida where he was joined by our own Phillip Metcalf to take in the sights at the Palm Beach Cavallino Classic. This is an event that has always highlighted the beauty and spectacle of the Ferrari marque during Saturday’s Concorso d’Eleganza, where cars are judged under the intensely fastidious rules of the Ferrari Club of America. The Cavallino Sunday event has grown to become a world-class show in its own right, with fabulous pre-war classics mixing it with post war sports cars and of course, a fine showing of Italian exotics.

As January rolled into February, Mark once again escaped the cold and snowy weather of St. Louis only to find cold and snowy weather in Paris for the annual Salon Retromobile; a magnificent event where enthusiasts, dealers, auction houses, car clubs, restorers, and parts vendors from around the world gather under the pavilion to celebrate all aspects of classic automobiles. Rather fittingly, while in Paris, Hyman Ltd. acquired a wonderful example of one of France’s greatest Avant Garde marques: Avions Voisin. Our 1928 C11 is one of only 40 of the model known to exist, and it is believed to be the only example bodied by the great Carrosserie Vanvooren of Paris. The car will be displayed on our stand at Techno Classica Essen, from March 21st through the 25th.

Just this past week, we returned from the Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance in Florida, an event that has become a welcome stop on our winter calendar. Our 1930 Stutz MB Versailles by Weymann once again wowed audiences with its fabulous all-black livery and stunning restoration, and it was awarded with a Best in Class trophy for Pre-War American Classics, 1930-1941. Even more importantly, we were thrilled see one of our clients take both Best Foreign Classic as well as Best in Show with his magnificent 1938 Delahaye 135MS Coupe by Figoni et Falaschi, which he purchased from Hyman Ltd. via our consignment program.

Looking ahead to March, we will continue our busy schedule of shows and events, all the while continuing to serve our clients around the world. First up for March is the always delightful Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. Bill Warner and his crew put on a world-class concours in a stunning venue that remains approachable, relaxed and enjoyable for exhibitors as well as spectators. Bill also continues to impress us with a selection of truly incredible cars and classes. This year we will be exhibiting our one-off Ferrari 166MM/53 by Carrosserie Oblin, a 1938 Mercedes 320 Cabriolet B, and a gorgeous 1933 MG K2 roadster. We always look forward to Amelia, and we look forward to seeing old friends on the greens at the Ritz Carlton Hotel.

From March 21st to the 25th, Shawn Dougan will return to Techno Classica Essen where we will have several cars on display, including the Avions Voisin C11 Vanvooren saloon. This year, we have additional space available on our stand, so if you have a vehicle you wish to display for sale, please contact Shawn Dougan at shawn@hymanltd.com or at +1(314) 524-6000. For more information on this or any other event we plan to attend, please follow us at www.hymanltd.com.

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you out on the road!
