In typical Lancia tradition, the Dilambda of 1929-1935 was one of the most innovative and exquisitely engineered motorcars of its time, featuring independent Sliding Pillar front suspension and a unique narrow-angle V8 engine with a single cylinder head. While the Lambda before featured a clever monocoque platform, the Dilambda reverted to a sturdy ladder-type chassis, allowing greater versatility for coachbuilders in Italy and abroad to practice their craft, creating some of the most memorable grand touring cars of the 1930s.

The aptly nicknamed “Blue Shadow” is a 1930 first-series Dilambda Type 227, powered by a 3958-cc, 24-degree V8 engine. It features beautiful one-off coachwork by Carlton Carriage of London, and has been lovingly restored by a passionate marque specialist. It is presented in its original livery and specification as ordered by its first owner, Sir Douglas Montgomery Bernard Hall, who coined the Blue Shadow sobriquet, inspired by the blue-accented light-gray livery. The car’s fascinating history is well-documented in an accompanying book, and upon completion the owner/restorer showed it at the 2021 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, taking home the coveted Coppa d’Oro trophy for Best in Show. Not one to rest on his laurels, the owner shipped the Lancia to New York, embarking on an epic cross-country American adventure, driving the Lancia from coast to coast – a trip which culminated on the lawn at the famed Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and taking home 3^rd in Class.
