When the 550 Maranello evolved into the faster and more powerful 575M, Ferrari began development of a limited-production, open-topped variant as a follow-up act to the 550 Barchetta. The distinctive 575 Superamerica debuted in 2005, defined by its ingenious “flip top” automatic opening glass roof with patented Revocromico variable-opacity tinting. The single glass panel was fully automatic, and opened in a matter of seconds, nestling between the buttresses on the rear deck. Unlike the 550 Barchetta’s rudimentary canvas top, the 575 Superamerica’s tight-sealing glass roof allowed driver’s to make full use of the car’s 533 horsepower V12 engine and 199 mph top speed in a wide range of conditions.
This 2005 575 SA is one of approximately 170 US-market examples from a total production of just 559 cars. It has covered just over 9,200 miles from new and presents in exquisite condition, having been maintained with little regard to cost by a series of prominent enthusiasts and collectors. Finished in Nero with Nero leather and contrasting red stitching, it has a breathtaking, almost sinister presence, with outstanding finish and detailing. Options include Scuderia shields on the front wings, Daytona-style seats, and the highly desirable GTC Handling package which added tuned suspension, special split-rim alloy wheels, sports exhaust, and Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes. Within the last few years, the Revocromico roof was serviced at significant expense to ensure it is fully functional. It is accompanied by original books and manuals in their leather wallets, factory tools, car cover, roof cover, and extensive service and ownership documents. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most collectible Ferrari supercars of the early 2000s, offered in superb condition throughout.
