It’s no secret that Enzo Ferrari was a staunch traditionalist. Rather than being an innovator, he much preferred to allow others to perfect new technology, then he would adopt and perfect it once the kinks were worked out. For example, Enzo stuck to his tried and true alloy drums until Jaguar kept winning LeMans on Dunlop discs. The same was true with rear engine cars. British designed rear engine Grand Prix cars were showing their dominance and Enzo reluctantly acquiesced, thanks in part to influence from his visionary son Dino. But when it came to road cars and sports racing cars, Enzo stuck with his belief that the cart should never come before the horse. The 250LM was the first rear engine Ferrari GT car, and while technically a road car, it hardly had much in the way of creature comforts. It wasn’t until Dino’s passing that Enzo decided to honor his memory with a proper road car that featured two of Dino’s passions: Mid-engine layout and a V6 engine. The gorgeous Dino 206/246 was never officially badged as a Ferrari, but the bloodline was obvious. The Dino 246GT evolved into the Dino 308GT4 – and gained two cylinders in the process. Next in line was the Pininfarina-designed, 2-seat 308GTB/GTS. Finally, the 308 earned the Ferrari badge it deserved from day one and the legacy of the mid-engine V8 Ferrari was solidified, one that lives on through the 458 of today.

This 1985 Ferrari 308GTS QV is an exceptionally well maintained, highly original example. It shows a genuine 29,340 miles from new and is in excellent condition inside and out. It is unrestored and includes the original window sticker, tool roll, books, manuals and clean Carfax. The traditional red over tan color scheme is classic and ideally suited to the classic Pininfarina lines. This twenty-nine year old Ferrari has the look and feel of a two year old car. The 3.0L quattrovalvole V8 (four valves per cylinder) engine gives the 308 a welcome boost in power and tractability.
