Conceived as a concept car to promote Jaguar's new dual overhead camshaft six-cylinder engine, the XK 120 Roadster that was introduced at the 1948 Earls Court Motor Show created such a sensation that William Lyons was left with no choice but to put it into production. The production version of the XK 120 was a clear and immediate success, but Jaguar realized that refinements were needed and introduced the XK 140 in 1955, incorporating a number of improvements that made Jaguar sports cars the best in value - and among the best high performance sports cars, period - of their day. With rack and pinion steering, a larger cockpit and a stiffer chassis frame, the XK 140 was both faster and more comfortable. Weighing over a hundred pounds less than the fixed head coupe and 200 less than the drophead coupe, the XK 140 Roadster was the top performer of the series and one of the very best sports cars of the mid-1950s.

This 1956 Jaguar XK 140 Roadster is a highly desirable MC, meaning it is equipped with the potent 210 horsepower C-Type cylinder head as well as everything that came on the optional 'M' package, including wire wheels, fog lights, dual exhaust and windshield washers. Finished in red, it has a tan leather interior, tan cloth top, side curtains, chrome wire wheels, bias ply wide whitewall tires and a tool kit. Delivered new to Topeka, Kansas on August 13, 1955, it comes with its original owner's manual, an original sales brochure, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate and photos of the restoration that was completed several years ago. The restoration has mellowed nicely, showing sympathetic attention and use by owners who have cared for its performance and presentation. It has enough miles to have worked out any post-restoration kinks and is ideal for someone who wants a handsome, attractive high-performance XK 140MC Open Two Seater for driving enjoyment that also is more than good enough to be shown at the end of a day's touring.
