Jaguar's William Lyons had an innate, subjective sense of style and design which distinguished Jaguars from their earliest days. But nothing anticipated the reception for the postwar XK 120 and its successor the XK 140. Their engine, a 3.4 liter dual overhead camshaft six was nothing less than state of the art, a design that challenged cars like Aston Martin, Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari costing two, three or four times as much. The XK 140 incorporated many subtle changes to make it better, stronger and provide more interior room. In the XK 140 Drophead Coupe Jaguar combined William Lyons' svelte XK body style with a competition proven drivetrain, one of the most desirable of all postwar sports cars.
This beautiful 1955 Jaguar XK 140 Drophead Coupe was body-off-the-frame restored some years ago by Doc's Jaguars in Illinois and done to very high standards. Finished in quality red paint with attractive and only lightly used tan leather upholstery and interior trim, all the quality woodwork that makes the Drophead Coupe's interior so plush and rich was carefully refinished and remains in very good condition. The engine is the original block as verified by the JDHC Certificate that comes with the documentation package (including a huge binder of restoration photos verifying its careful and thorough attention) topped by a later cylinder head. Important upgrades have been incorporated to make it a better driver including front disc brake conversion, an aluminum radiator, electric fan and Mallory electronic ignition, as well as a hidden CD player. Other equipment includes Lucas driving lights, bumper overriders, badge bar and chrome wire wheels with Avon blackwall tires. In many ways it is the best of all possible Jags for touring with the high output engine, better cooling and ignition, luxurious interior appointments and a tight-fitting folding top with rollup windows. It can be proudly and confidently driven all day, then shown with pride at the end of the day.
