1952 Jaguar XK120 Roadster

Jaguar’s XK 120 was conceived as a show car to highlight Jaguar’s new 3.4-liter dual overhead camshaft straight-six engine. At first it was never intended for series production, but its reception at the London Motor Show held at Earls Court in the fall of 1948 quickly convinced Jaguar otherwise. The sleek, feline envelope body designed by Jaguar boss William Lyons set new standards of streamlined design and stood out from a generation of attractive but rectangular British sports car designs. First introduced as a roadster with handmade aluminum bodies, Jaguar quickly tooled up for production in steel to be followed in the summer of 1951 by the fixed head coupe. While the coupe was a popular, elegant design, it is the XK 120 Roadster that has remained the iconic image of the classic XK 120 for most enthusiasts and collectors. And it is cars like this 1952 Jaguar XK 120 Roadster that they are thinking of. A ground up, nut and bolt restoration with matching number engine block and cylinder head, it is finished in red with a tan leather interior and black cloth convertible top. Other exterior features include chrome wire wheels, wide whitewall tires, wind wings, dual wing-mounted rearview mirrors, Lucas driving lights and the early chrome marker lamps. This car’s interior looks perfectly new and the engine compartment is highly detailed, while both the exterior and undercarriage are exquisite. Its fully restored tool kit includes a jack and spare wheel, and the fully restored set of side curtains matches the rest of this Jaguar’s stunning condition. A remarkable left-hand drive XK 120, finished in a desirable color that sets off its lithe, seductive curves, it can be shown proudly, driven with satisfaction in its quality and presentation and enjoyed thoroughly for what it is, a prime example of one of the greatest classic sports cars of all time.
