Jaguar fulfilled a long-awaited promise with the 1971 introduction of the Series III XKE. Under the bonnet was a brand new overhead cam 60-degree V-12 engine displacing 5,343cc and putting out 314 horsepower at 5,500 rpm on the dynamometer without accessories. The XKE chassis remained unchanged but now wore wider wheels and tires within flared wheel arches. Both coupe and convertible benefitted from being standardized on the coupe's 105 inch wheelbase. Behind the wheels Jaguar fitted vented brake discs and standard power steering to deal with the Series III's greater power and mass. With a price that was barely half of that of V12-powered coupes from Ferrari and Lamborghini -- the only other V12-engined cars on the market -- and uncompromised quality and luxury, the Series III was enthusiastically received and is happily enjoyed by collectors who appreciate its combination of beauty, performance and comfort. This 1973 Jaguar XKE Series III coupe is fitted with air conditioning, chrome wire wheels, black wall tires and automatic transmission and finished in red with tan leather upholstery. It has benefited from much careful attention to its appearance with good paint, a correct and correctly installed new interior, new tires and wire wheels, all accented by straight bodywork. The engine compartment is beautiful, orderly and showing attention to correct details in fit and finish. Still capable of achieving highly illegal speeds in safety and comfort, this 1973 Jaguar XKE Series III coupe is a premiere grand touring automobile with Jaguar style and comfort.
