Jaguar fitted torsion bar independent front suspension, similar to the XK 120's, and four wheel hydraulic brakes to a completely redesigned and lower frame with 120 inch wheelbase to the Mark V, introduced in 1948. Power came from Jaguar's 3.5 liter overhead valve inline six-cylinder engine with two SU carburetors and 125 horsepower. As Sir William Lyons had so frequently done, the coachwork of the Mark V was superbly designed and executed to support Jaguar's reputation for some of the most sleek, svelte attractive bodies in production, supplemented by the gorgeous 3-position Drophead coupe coachwork introduced a year into the Mark V's three year production cycle. Only 977 Jaguar Mark V Drophead Coupes were built, and this 1950 model must be one of the best. It is a fresh, nut-and-bolt restoration to Concours-winning standards with two 2013 Best in Class awards (at the Festival of Speed and Boca Raton Concours) to show for it. The livery is a gorgeous silver metallic over metallic maroon fenders complemented by maroon leather upholstery with grey piping and a beautiful maroon cloth soft top and matching boot cover. It is fully equipped with hubcaps, trim rings, whitewall tires, tri-bar headlights, Lucas driving lights flanking the vee-shaped Jaguar grille and rear fender skirts. Every detail, from the tar-top battery to the complete tool kit inside the boot lid, is spot on. The interior -- upholstery, trim, carpets and particularly the extensive wood trim -- is a delight. This is the complete package, not only meticulously and comprehensively restored to Concours condition but also a rare and desirable example of Jaguar's mid-century design at its finest and most prestigious.
