Still widely regarded as one of the best sedans ever built, the Mercedes-Benz 600 marked the ascendancy of the Stuttgart marque back to the pinnacle of luxury, performance and prestige just twenty years after the end of World War II. The 600 had everything that an increasingly wealthy upper class could want, including performance with 300 horsepower and 434 lb-ft torque from the 6.3 liter overhead camshaft fuel injected light alloy V-8 engine. A comfortable yet competent ride was assured with fully independent suspension on load-compensating air springs. There were disc brakes all around (with dual calipers at the front), air suspension, central door locks, power steering, remotely adjusted outside mirrors and two separate climate control systems. Mercedes-Benz left nothing to chance when catering to the comfort of its top customers, fitting two separate alternators to ensure continuous power for the 600's multiple power assists. Top speed was comparable with the legendary sports cars of the period: 125-130 mph. This 1966 Mercedes-Benz is the standard 'short wheelbase' version, a mere 18 feet 2 inches long, bumper-to-bumper. Finished in refined black, the interior is more flamboyant in bright red leather with red carpets. It has been selectively redone with new carpets, original door panels, reupholstered front seats and rear seat cushions and new radial whitewall tires. A Becker AM-FM radio is installed and there are pull-down shades on the rear side windows and the back window (making those power adjustable side mirrors especially important to the driver.) The prior owner represents it as having been extensively gone through including a new stainless steel exhaust, fresh paint, new front glass and window gaskets, new M-B brake pads, new dash pad, refinished interior wood trim, cold A/C, serviced and fully operational climate control, replaced engine hoses and seals, new shocks and Pertonics ignition. The engine compartment is comprehensively detailed and the bodywork is straight and solid. Recognized everywhere as one of the ultimate sedans ever built, this 1966 Mercedes-Benz 600 Sedan will command attention among the most expensive and exclusive luxury sedans and limousines.
