1974 Mercedes-Benz Unimog

The Unimog is Mercedes-Benz's range of four wheel drive utility vehicles built for rough, off-road environments in farming, ranching and exploration. Utility, reliability, ruggedness and stump-pulling power are their design attributes. Rarely are they seen in the splendid condition of this 1974 pickup. It has been completely redone to show truck condition with beautiful paint in champagne gold over black fenders. The interior has late model Mercedes bucket seats. Huge 20 inch silver steel industrial wheels are set off by orange inserts around the six securing lugs and wear 365/80 Continental off-road tires. The bed tilts both to the rear and to the side. Power comes from a Mercedes-Benz diesel engine equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and a transfer case that give all six speeds in both forward and reverse. A chrome exhaust stack and an engine air intake snorkel suggest it could be operated through water above the window sills, although in its splendid condition that would be inadvisable. There also is a Warn front winch. The bed has a show bar above the cab top on which is mounted a train air horn powered by dual compressors and an accumulator tank. It is painful when blown. It is a unique statement of off-road capability and luxury that never fails to attract attention and will survive in all conditions. M-B G-wagens pale in comparison with this magnificent, rugged ride.
