Ford introduced the Ranchero in 1957, combining a station wagon body's front seats with an open pickup bed to create a new category of vehicle that would go on to enjoy surprising success in following years. Available in a full range of powertrains and with abundant trim and equipment options, the Ranchero answered a question which Ford, Chevy and Dodge pickups had missed addressing for years. This 1957 Ranchero combines the Deluxe trim package of the Del Rio two-door station wagons. The roof is cut off in a style that would become fashionable in sedans in a few years. The folding seatbacks originally intended to give passengers access to the rear seats now conceal the spare tire, tools and compact hidden storage. Under the hood a 212hp 292 cubic inch Y-block Ford V-8 with dual exhausts now drives the Ford-o-Matic automatic transmission as well as power steering and power brakes. The exterior is finished in Cumberland Blue and Colonial White with matching vinyl interior. Optional exterior trim includes a V-shaped grille guard, "hockey stick" sill moldings, dual outside rear view mirrors and a set of new chrome wire wheels with wide whitewall tires. The original equipment type heater and clock are complemented by an updated stereo sound system along with an aftermarket air conditioning system. Whether for weekend errands, a cruise night for two or three or a sharp ride to promote a business, this nicely restored and presented 1957 Ford Ranchero would be ideal and pay for itself in pleasure and positive image in only a few months.
