The concept for the 65 degree V-6 engine of the Dino is credited to Enzo Ferrari's son. An ingenious approach to packaging a small displacement engine in a compact mid-engined chassis, it was brought into production by evolving sporting regulations which specified production-based engines for Formula 2 single seat race cars. In the early Sixties "production" at Ferrari never reached the 500 units required by the authorities, but Fiat, which recently had invested in Ferrari, undertook the task, packaging the basic Ferrari Dino V-6 with wet sump lubrication and a Fiat 124-based 5-speed transmission in a conventional chassis with independent front and live axle rear suspension. Bertone designed the coupe version, introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1967 (almost a year before Ferrari's own mid-engined Dino) with a 2-liter engine. Developing 160 horsepower, the 2 liter Fiat Dino was quick, comfortable and distinctively designed a luxurious and powerful counterpart to the 4-cylinder Alfas of the day. This 1967 Fiat Dino is finished in red with black leather upholstery. It rides on a set of Cromodora alloy wheels with black wall Pirelli P3000 tires. The interior has a Blaupunkt cassette stereo, Nardi wood rim steering wheel and power windows. Its condition evidences continuing care and attention as needed, a solid, honest car. The paint is good, the leather interior is better. The chrome has been redone as needed and the body weather-stripping appears to have been replaced for tight, quiet seals. The engine bay is clean and orderly with just a little bit of oil mist to prove it is an Italian car and preserve the original finishes. It comes with copies of the service and parts manuals, evidence of its prior owners' concern for proper maintenance and operation. An attractive and unusual automobile with Ferrari heritage, it is ideal for all sorts of events and will be a valued participant in any gathering of Italian marques.
