Successor to the 400 GT on which Lamborghini's reputation was built and to the ground-breaking Miura, the Espada featured Lamborghini's 370hp 3929cc 4-cam V-12 engine front-mounted as in the 400 GT, 5-speed gearbox, fully independent suspension, four wheel disc brakes and a cutting edge body design by Marcello Gandini, designer of the Miura, built by Bertone. Highly regarded for the quality and performance of their V-12 engines and driveline, the Espada's production life extended over a nine year span. This example is unusually attractive in pearl black with saddle tan leather upholstery and interior trim. It is very nice all over, without ever apparently getting or needing a restoration. The interior is fitted with a modern Clarion CD stereo system, power windows, heated rear window, wood rim steering wheel and, best of all, air conditioning. Its 2,650mm wheelbase allows meaningful legroom for rear seat passengers and a large luggage space under the gently sloping rear glass. One of the Espada's more notable features is the small vertical glass located below the rear window, a distinctive design cue that also provides useful rear visibility (without luggage.) Pirelli P5 blackwall tires are mounted on the alloy wheels. All the body's rubber seals appear to have been replaced and are in excellent condition. The engine bay is very tidy. In all, this is a handsome car which appears to have had a pampered life with any needs attended to as soon as they became apparent. The fit and finish are consistently good; the interior is attractive and sound. It is, in the words of one knowledgeable onlooker, a "happy" car.
