1964 Jaguar E Type Roadster

The achievements of Jaguar's XKE (as it was known in the U.S.; it was "E-type" in its home islands) are well known. Introducing arguably the most modern, high performance chassis on any sports car in the world, four wheel disc brakes and a design inspired by Sir William Lyons and refined by Malcolm Sayer, the XKE was an instant success, abetted by continuing the highly developed, reliable, powerful and torquey 3.8 liter dual overhead camshaft inline six carried over from the XK 150. It offered specifications comparable with the finest sports cars from Europe's specialists at Mercedes-Benz, Maserati and Ferrari with performance to match but at a price half or less that charged by the competition. There was simply nothing else like it, not even America's Corvette, still burdened when the XKE was introduced with a live rear axle and available only with drum brakes until 1965. The original XKE, with its covered headlights and simple bodywork, has long been regarded as the benchmark by which production sports cars are judged but few if any of them are as beautifully restored as this lovely 1964. Every nut and bolt has been restored to original factory condition including subtle touches like retaining the original ID tag so often replaced by a reproduction. Every aspect of its presentation has been attended to with assiduous attention to detail, from the period AM-FM radio through the chrome wire wheels, blackwall tires and complete tool kit including tool roll, matching spare wheel and tire and wheel nut hammer to the correct jack in its appropriate bag. The engine's cylinder head and block match the original tag's numbers. Finished in Carmen Red with Black leather seating, Black interior trim and matching carpets, it has a Black cloth top and boot cover. It needs absolutely nothing to be shown with pride and confidence or driven secure in the knowledge you're at the wheel of one of the finest XKE Open Two Seaters in the world.
