Introduced in 1963, the Jaguar XKE was an instant sensation. Beautiful, sleek, aerodynamic, efficient, it also was fast and, well, sexy too. Road & Track's veteran writer Henry N. Manney christened it, "The greatest crumpet-catcher known to man" and he was referring to the fixed head coupe, the swoopiest, svelte, and sexiest of all the XKE body designs. The Series II was more refined, with more flexible 4,265cc engine, fully synchronized 4-speed gearbox and a few other changes brought about by evolving regulations on lighting and passive safety equipment. This 1971 XKE Fixed Head Coupe is ideally equipped including 4-speed transmission, a period radio, chrome wire wheels and blackwall tires. Even better, it is a well preserved, straight, sound and usable largely original example that needs nothing to be used and enjoyed. It is equipped with factory air conditioning which will make it, when connected and serviced, one of the best and most enjoyable E-types for cruises, tours and drives of any on the planet. It isn't a show car, but then again, no one really wants to drive a show car, and driving is what Jaguar XKEs are all about.
