1979 London Taxi

The London "Black Cab" is famous for its passenger-friendly environment, robust construction ... and its 25' diameter turning circle. Built to a cooperative design developed among the chassis and drivetrain build Austin, Carbodies the body builder and taxi dealer Mann and Overton. Introduced in 1958, it continued in production through the demise of Austin, a series of engines (after Austin sold the entire production line for the FX4's first engine to India), consolidation of Carbodies with Mann and Overton and creation of the current London Taxi builder, the aptly named LTI. This example is fitted with a diesel engine as most London Taxis were to meet increasingly strict emissions requirements. It appears just as must have when it was taken out of service in the British capital in Black with Grey vinyl interior and still has its roof light although the fare metering equipment has been removed. It will provide a new owner with entertainment as well as immediately recognized transportation in one of the neatest and most charismatic vehicles the world has ever produced, an emblem of the city of London and its famous appreciation of practicality and tradition.
