Packard's Ninth Series cars were introduced in mid-1931 to try to capture some excitement as the real depths of the Great Depression began to be felt. Visual changes included a gently vee-shape radiator complemented by a new bumper with harmonic stabilizers at the ends to damp chassis harmonics. Internally a double drop frame lowered the frame and body height while second and third gears were synchronized and the Deluxe Eight engine's power increased to 135 horsepower at 3,200 rpm. The Ninth Series Packard’s were quality, quiet, sophisticated automobiles, offered in a variety of engines, wheelbases and bodies. The problem was that the Depression had continued to deepen. Instead of a short dip, the country's, indeed the world's, economic malaise spread and showed no sign of getting better. In the times cars like this 1932 Packard Eight Coupe Roadster were anachronistic. It is, however, their very rarity that today makes them highly prized by collectors. Finished in Black with a Red accent and coachlining, this 1932 Eight Coupe Roadster is upholstered in Tan leather with matching Tan cloth top. It has bright Red wire wheels with wide whitewall tires and chrome lock rings, donut chaser radiator cap ornament, dual side-mounted spares with mirrors, rumble seat, golf bag door and a luggage trunk fully stocked with an exceptional set of fitted luggage. The chrome is brilliant, the paint is sharp and the interior is inviting. The wood dash with its aircraft inspired instrument panel is dynamite. An older restoration it has been driven enough to have acquired some attractive patina but not enough to make it anything less than a standout on show fields, tours or events. This is an outstanding Packard with great eyeball appeal and a restoration that shows its quality workmanship, materials and attention to detail.
