Rolls-Royce began to do exciting things with the Bentley marque in the 80's, re-establishing it as the luxury-performance marque without equal. The Continental R coupe introduced in 1991 went a long, long way to cementing that reputation. Powered by a turbocharged version of the Rolls-Royce/Bentley V-8, it quickly earned the nickname "Crewe's Missile". Proving the adage that in horsepower and torque "some is good, more is better and too much is just right" subsequent Bentley Continental R’s added power, culminating in the Continental R Mulliner built from 1999 through 2003. Powered by a turbocharged, intercooled engine, it developed 420 brake horsepower and a massive 645 lb-ft of torque, sufficient to tax even Bentley's sophisticated Electronic Traction Assistance System and produce black streaks of tire rubber measured in significant fractions of a mile. This pristine 12,000 mile example is finished in Metallic Green with the interior invitingly upholstered in Tan Connolly hides. Its Mouton overrugs have never been out of their delivery bags. It has every option, convenience and accessory, comes with complete books and records documenting its existence and consistent care from new backed up by a comprehensive service in 2007. It is impressively exclusive even by Bentley standards with only 46 built and it is one of the last true British Bentleys. It needs nothing except to be exercised enthusiastically.
