The Mangusta started as a Ghia project. Alessandro De Tomaso had Ghia adapt it to a mid-engined backbone chassis, installed a Ford small block engine and De Tomaso Automobili was in business. The Mangusta's design, by Giorgetto Giugiaro, was dynamic, clean and refreshingly free of added-on tabs, intakes, wings and spoilers. It featured unique center hinged rear body panels that covered the complete back of the car and engine. This example is an extremely good car, very original and very correct. It is finished in Black with its original Red interior which is in excellent condition without a tear or a rip. It has received an exceptionally good repaint at some time in the past and is equipped with air conditioning, its original wheels and original radio. The odometer shows some 18,000 original miles and the Mangusta is just in exceptionally good, well maintained, largely original condition. It has never been modified or molested and may be the best preserved, most pure, Mangusta in the world.
