1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible

Cadillac effected a complete redesign in 1959 making its automobiles larger, sleeker and more dynamic. None was more distinctive than the Eldorado with its own unique rounded body sides and comprehensive list of comfort and convenience features as standard. It was so long, low and sleek that even Cadillac's tall 1959 tail fins with dual horizontal taillights in their own nacelles seemed appropriate. Eighteen feet nine inches from nose to tail and over two and a half tons bare, the 1959 Eldorado was a statement of opulence, exclusivity, power and comfort that its buyers -- and there were only 1320 of them for the Eldorado Biarritz convertible -- specified their own combinations of colors and materials. No one walked into a Cadillac showroom and bought an Eldorado Biarritz off the floor. They ponied up their $7,500 in advance before selecting from a nearly unlimited choice of colors and materials.

Restored in 2008, this 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible is one of just 100 ordered with bucket seats. Finished in Brenton Blue, its interior in white leather with turquoise inserts is a special order combination. It is of course lavishly equipped with air conditioning, Autronic Eye, and power assists of every conceivable type.  The original troublesome air suspension has been converted to coil springs for enhanced driveability, leaving the air compressor underhood for a stock appearance. The original interior was preserved during restoration, showing the workmanship lavished on the Eldorado by Cadillac's finest craftsmen.

It has been displayed at the Art Center College of Design and Rodeo Drive Concours where it trophied both times. Since then it has been carefully maintained and regularly serviced within a collection of exceptional American and European classics.

Restored to very high standards, this is a premier example of one of the most desirable, evocative and rare automobiles from America in the middle of the twentieth century. With 345 horsepower from its triple carbureted 390 cubic inch Cadillac V-8 it will hold its head high on the freeway as well as the avenues of Santa Monica, Southampton, Palm Beach or in its namesake Biarritz.
