Little changed externally with the debut of the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II in 1959, but it did introduce Rolls-Royce’s 6.2 liter V8 engine, which was a significant improvement in both performance and sophistication over the previous car’s 4.9 liter straight-six. In typically thorough Rolls-Royce fashion, each engine passed a seven-hour full throttle, full power dynamometer test before being installed in a Silver Cloud II. The chassis, fully developed in the first generation Silver Cloud since 1955, had proven itself to be quiet, reliable and comfortable, all attributes demanded by Rolls-Royce’s discriminating clientele, and took full advantage of the lighter, more powerful V8.
It is not especially hard to find either comprehensively restored or well-worn original examples of the Silver Cloud II, but to find a carefully preserved, fastidiously maintained example is exceptional. This 1960 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II Saloon, chassis LSTB94, is a left-hand drive example that has had only three owners from new, all of them marque enthusiasts. It has been in St. Louis for its entire life, where it has always been serviced by Rolls-Royce technicians, comes with all maintenance records for the last ten years and currently shows less than 49,000 miles. Finished in blue with a lighter blue coachline, it has a grey leather interior with blue carpets piped in grey, factory air conditioning, foldout trays in the back of the front seats and an upgraded Sony stereo. Also included are the original tools and jack as well as such seldom seen original items as the Rolls-Royce and Bentley service book, owner's manual and the original factory envelope noted with the chassis number. Even the spare tire in the trunk, a bias ply wide whitewall, is believed to be the one that came with the car when new.
Other than new carpets and one repaint, this is an honest original car that has always been superbly maintained by owners who had the means and foresight to keep it in wonderful shape. The leather is completely original and has a lovely patina to it, the body is solid and straight. Mechanically, it is fully sorted and ready to enjoy. This is among the very best original Silver Cloud IIs to be found anywhere
